Being cautious during the Holidays!

2020 has been a really tough year for most people for obvious reasons.  Especially now, with the holidays upon us, we’re encouraged to not travel, stay home with immediate family only, and not entertain in groups to prevent any spreading of Covid-19.  Since we’re staying home, we find ourselves indulging in goodies, sweet treats, and home-cooked meals.  There is nothing quite like homemade cookies, cakes and family recipes.  We also look forward to our holiday blends at coffee houses, like it’s our own personal reward, but for breastfeeding moms, peppermint can have a negative effect on milk supply including: peppermint iced drinks, peppermint-flavored coffees and teas, and peppermint candy canes.

Other spices and herbs used in holiday cooking may also decrease  a mom’s milk supply, and should be used  cautiously, including:  Parsley, Sage, Oregano, Spearmint, Thyme, and Lemon Balm, especially by breastfeeding moms who have had a history of low-milk supply.

This holiday season it’s even more important to be thankful and grateful for every kind gesture, and don’t wait to let people know how much they mean to you…tell them today; for that will be the best holiday present for both of you!!!

Stay well & happy holidays!!!
